Introduction to Spanish: The goal of this course is to introduce middle school students with little or no knowledge of Spanish to basic vocabulary, some grammar, literacy and conversational skills. Students will be expected to learn words from a variety of vocabulary lists and practice them orally. They will learn to read, write, speak, and understand some basic conversational themes in relation to everyday events and familiarize themselves with different Spanish cultures through hands on activities, visual aids, (power points, videos, music) and presentations. This course is a preparatory one to a more advanced study of the language in high school, and it will give them a great advantage to further their Spanish studies.
MS Spanish: Students will continue to focus on the four key areas of language study: Listening, speaking, reading,a nd writing. There will be a strong emphasis on context and conversations. This class is geared to students who have completed Intro to Spanish.
Spanish 1: This course is geared toward students with good English and memorization skills who have some knowledge of the Spanish language. Students will learn advanced vocabulary and grammar styles. Peer conversations and cultural comparisons will be a regular part of this class.
Spanish Conversation 2: Spanish for Conversation is a non-conventional approach to acquiring oral language skills. Students will experience an immersion approach and will develop oral skills for a number of real-life scenarios. Assignments will include daily oral exercises, cultural activities, art projects, group videos, and presentations, among others. Previous exposure to a Spanish class is helpful but not required. Students must be self-motivated and be ready to practice the use of Spanish daily.
Spanish Conversation 3: Spanish for Conversation is an advanced Spanish course. It is designed to provide vocabulary and knowledge to help students express themselves orally in real-life scenarios. The immersion approach allows students to develop a path of thinking in the target language. Class time is for conversation and discussion in Spanish of the required at home assignments. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish 2 and self motivation for the daily use of Spanish.
French 1: This beginner's course introduces students to the basics of French vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. Students will develop in four basic skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will become a ware of the French culture in France and other countries.
French 2: This course is for advancing students to broaden their level of French skills. Topical contexts will allow students to expand their vocabulary and grammar. Prerequisite: French 1 or placement exam.
